In May, my husband, Jack, retired after 34 years as Mr. Hospital Fix-it (a biomedical technician repairing and maintaining medical equipment). While retirement was a happy change, it was the start of a very hectic summer moving from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, to Dayton, Washington, USA.
Settling into our home in Washington has been wonderful due to the new neighbors and community we’ve found here. Dayton is friendly and welcoming. On the other hand, the house itself has more problems than we realized. Jack’s been working harder than ever in retirement just to get the tiny house ready for winter!
Over the summer, I’ve been busy learning the ins and outs of machine embroidery. I’ve learned how to maintain my machine, how to hoop garments, how to thread the machine and test the tension, how to recover from thread breaks and empty bobbins, how to add details to designs, and how to get good quality stitch-outs. It’s been challenging, exasperating, and a ton of fun. I’m so pleased to start sharing my work.
